A violent clash broke out in Bahraich’s Mahsi area, resulting in the death of one person. The incident began when a youth removed a green flag from a rooftop and replaced it with a saffron flag, sparking tensions.
According to reports, the youth also pelted stones at a nearby shop. The situation escalated when a group of people forcibly entered a Muslim household, removed the green flag, and hoisted a saffron flag instead.
Violence Spreads, Properties Damaged
The violence spread rapidly, with mobs setting fire to shops, houses, and vehicles in Sadhuwapur village. The village has been severely affected, with numerous homes, businesses, and assets reduced to ashes.
Eyewitnesses describe chaotic scenes, with people fleeing for their lives as homes and shops were vandalized.
Police Struggle to Contain Situation
Despite the deployment of police and PAC personnel, the situation remains volatile. Bahraich police officials stated that the clash erupted between two groups during a procession near a mosque, leading to the fatal shooting of one individual.
The situation is currently under control, with police personnel deployed in the affected areas. In response to the violence, police have arrested 30 individuals. However, the aftermath of the violence has left many families displaced and struggling to come to terms with their losses.
