Awareness is necessary for conservation of national animal Tiger: Dr. H Raja Mohan

Dr H Raja Mohan, Director, Zoological Park said that due to increasing urbanization and shrinking forests, the national animal tiger is fighting for existence today. Initiatives taken for the conservation and breeding of tigers in India are showing their benefits, but even today one tiger is dying every third day in India. Tigers can be saved only by making the public aware.
Dr H Raja Mohan, Gorakhpur Forest Department, Shaheed Ashfaq Ullah Khan Zoological Park, Heritage Foundation and Heritage Evins, We for Animals, Rotary Mid Town, was addressing the contestants of the ongoing petting competition at the zoological park under the joint aegis of GBS. He told the students that the tradition of celebrating International Tiger Day on 29 July every year started with the 2010 Tiger Summit in St. Petersburg. According to the data presented in the Lok Sabha, between the last three years i.e. 2019 to 2021, 329 tigers died in the country. Of these, 68 died natural deaths, 05 unnatural deaths, 29 tigers were targeted by poachers while 30 tigers were killed in attacks on people. The exact cause of death of 197 tigers is under investigation. However, there have been many more in the hunt in 2021 as compared to 2019.
On Wednesday, Shaheed Ashfaq Ullah Khan Zoological Park Complex, Ayodhya Das Girls Intermediate College, Delhi Public School, Central Academy, St. Xavier’s School Mahuisugharpur, Delhi Public School Maniram Painting, Sketching, Quiz and Essay Competition were organized. Around 500 students took part in these competitions.
